I bought the solar mount as I figured it would be great backup if I don’t get to change the camera battery on time and it would be more cost effective in the long run. For a very long time the external batteries weren’t kicking in and I tried installing the camera and mount multiple times but eventually gave up. Then I saw a video about removing the camera batteries all together and basically forcing the external solar batteries into working. Which it worked all summer and no issues! Lately during the day I noticed I didn’t have any notifications of movement from this specific cameras in the evenings which was odd as my neighbours are always in and out of their house. Finally I realized as the weather is getting colder, the camera stops working around 4-5pm and doesn’t start again till the next morning when the sun is out. Which is clearly a security problem. If I put the regular batteries back in, then I won’t have backup power at night, and when it gets colder, I’m going to burn through regular batteries like crazy which defeats the entire purpose of having a solar panel…. Not sure what to do at this point as I’m months into owning this mount but figured someone else might find this helpful and rethink pitching this mount. The camera is great though!UPDATE- Nov 29th - I was contacted by Blink Customer Service within a few days of posting my review and helped troubleshoot my issue with the solar battery. They went above and beyond to stand behind their product and provided me with a replacement of camera and mount to help solve the issue right away. We are giving a few days for the new system to work in winter weather and at nights and see if all is good. However, as soon as I installed the new camera and connected the solar mount, the app register the external battery and everything is working so far. Will update again and upgrade my star to 5 stars!
